Certainly don't avoid them. We've been diving for years and this was definitely a 5 star experience. We never lifted a finger. Practically pampered we were guided by very good DM's and increased our training over the holiday to take in more specialities which were well taught and well executed. They were recommended to me, and I'd recommend them to anyone out there. WELL DONE TSD.
I am generally not one for writing reviews, but I felt that just having one of my best diving vacations ever...It would be unforgivable not sharing my diving expereince with other divers about Thresher Shark Divers. I am not the best person in the world for organizing my dive vacations and I tend to make decisions at the last moment and on this occasion (like many other trips before) I failed to book anything and just took a 'chance' by heading to Malapascua from Palawan. I walked from dive shop to dive shop on Malapascua before eventually settling on a large dive centre that had its own resort. However, for reasons that need not be mentioned here, I chose to look at other dive centers the following day and finally chose to dive with Thresher Shark Divers for the remainder of my vacation...I COULD NOT HAVE MADE A BETTER CHOICE! As soon as I walked into their shop, I was immediately greeted with a warm welcome by their staff who literally sat me down and explained their diving procedures and their prices and they asked me lots of questions about my diving experience which was a first. I was given what they called an 'Orientation' which included their compressor room (in all my years of diving, no dive center has ever shown me their compressor room!). Before it was over I was sold by their professionalism and enthusiasm. Over the next 5 days, I dived 3 times a day with Thresher Shark Divers and their professionalism and attention to their guests is SECOND TO NONE! The guides and boat staff who are all locals were excellent! Everything from briefings to the dives were exceptionally well organized and fun! The guides were always friendly, efficient and professional as well as joking with me throughout my entire time with them...it was a great but safe experience and couple that with the sightings and dives of the Thresher Sharks & Mantas...it was my most memorable vacation. I have nothing but praise for Thresher Shark Divers and their staff and I have no hesitation in recommending their dive center as the place to go if anyone plans to dive Malapascua! They were simply AWESOME!
I loved the Island of Malapascua - for a 50 year old, it was perfect. Quiet, pristine. I'm a PADI Divemaster since 1990, so I do know a little bit about diving itself. The diving itself was some of the best I've ever done. While there was a number of decent dive sites, i found the overall experience to be too specialised and underwhelming. The Dive center left a lot to be desired. The staff was not 'customer oriented' and if you didn't like something? Tuff! Do it their way or stay on shore. Dive boats were 'cattle boats' with way to many people on board, especially with only ONE DIVEMASTER! There was no regard for dive safety at all. The divemaster did not make sure you were buddied up with anyone. If you went as a single diver (which I was) you had to find someone to buddy up with on your own. During the dive, the Divemaster was last in the water and the first one out. Big NO NO in my book. People jumped in the water and took off. I tried a couple of times to give the boat staff or divemaster an 'ok' signal when I got in the water, but no one was even watching, too busy trying to get the next diver off the boat. Diving was waaaaaaaaay to crowded. I would not have wanted to be on these dive boats when I first started out diving. For the inexperianced diver I would most definately stay clear of this dive operation. For those more experianced, it's doeable, but not a great experiance. We talked to other divers that dove with other dive operations while I was there and they explainded to us how they only had 4divers to each Divemaster, a much more sensible approach to diving in my opion. As I Divemaster, I also feel it's my obligation to make a formal complaint to PADI, as this is in no way a 5 star PADI operation and seems like a place just waiting for an accident. The equipment at the Dive Center itself was waaaaaay over priced compared to the dive shops , (atleast 50% more). If you forget something or have a break down, you have to get to forget about it! You have to rent their crap gear or buy over priced stuff from Thresher shark divers which they don't even have in stock. Seriously - avoid them!
