5 Star Rated 4 Star Rated I can't understand what you guys experienced at Thresher Shark Divers but my impression is they are one of the better dive shops I've dived with. The boat crew, divemasters, shop staff and bar staff are all extremely friendly. It's also one of the few diveshops that require proof of certification when you sign up to dive with them. I also took the advanced recreational trimix course with them and was blown away by how safety concious and professional they were. You obviously can't be making mistakes at 50 metres and I felt totally confident at all times during my stay.
5 Star Rated 5 Star Rated I had a fantastic time at TSD!!! Just want to say you get what you pay for, and their attention to detail regarding safety, and general level of professionalism, was outstanding. As far as I'm aware, they've had a grand total of ZERO diving accidents in the time they've been operating. What could be more important than that? I did a whole lof of stuff when I was there - advanced, nitrox, first aid & even their beautiful Thresher Shark Diver speciality, created by the owners of the shop themselves. Its a PADI recognised course, currently only available at TSD. It was a lot of fun, very informative - and yes, I did get to see some sharks early one beautiful morning :) The highlight of my trip, though, was a day trip to Calangaman island. I never knew such beautiful places existed in the world!!! A pristine tropical island, uninhabited, about 90 mins boat ride from Malapascua. We had 2 beautiful dives along the coral cliffs there, in pristine water, and not another dive boat in sight. If you want to see threshers, and if you want to experience unspoiled diving opportunities, I cant recommend Malapascua Island and Thresher Shark Divers enough! The western management makes it particularly easy, culture-wise, if you're from the west (not to mention their excellent British style bar, and consistently wonderful food). Have fun !
5 Star Rated 5 Star Rated This is by far, the best dive center I have ever been to. A large group of us (30 divers) descended upon TSD for two full weeks and they were brilliant at scheduling, accomodating, being prepared, offering various levels of dives, a variety of dive sites, and instructing in the many different classes that our group took while there. As for the negative comments about safety and the boat crew, those are the most absurb statements I have ever read. The boat guys and the Filipino Dive Masters are professional, helpful and we trusted them completely. We had none of the above mentioned issues happen, even with brand new divers that were with us. I will go back to TSD again and again because we had such an incredible time with them. I will also request Mike as an instructor for any future certifications that I obtain.
5 Star Rated 5 Star Rated I've dived in Malapascua three times now. The first time the dive shop I was with had their instructors quit half way through a course. TSD came to the rescue and finished off my and my friends course for no extra cost. Mike is a superb instructor who just put me through the rescue course. The comments on here about him are unbelievable and down right libelous. I consider this personally offensive as I consider Mike to be a good friend since my holidays there. The host of this website should be aware that he can be sued for leaving these disgusting comments viewable. The boat boys are suberb and never 'push' anyone off. The bar/restuarant at TSD appeared to be the only place on the island where one can get a meal within an hour of ordering it (usually less than 15 mins). I can't wait to go back for Xmas.

5 Star Rated 5 Star Rated I have taken AOW, Deep Spec, Wreck Spec, Nitrox, EFR, Rescue, PPB Spec & Thresher Spec over three trips to Malapascua. All of these courses through Thresher Shark Divers. I have requested Mike as my instructor for all of them for a very good reason. HE IS ONE OF THE BEST INSTRUCTORS I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING. I have a pub in China and we have a dive club called the pirates. We went to Malapascua in Sept / Oct. There are many reasons for choosing Malapascua: The Giant Manta's The Thresher Sharks The White Tip Reef Sharks The Wrecks The Gato Cave Dive The Mandarin Fish The Octopus' But the main reason was our group had 9 people needing Open Water Course 7 people taking their AOW / Nitrox course 4 people taking Nitrox 2 people taking EFR/Rescue 1 Girl taking Bubble Maker And I would not trust anyone else with this responsibility apart from TSD. As for the stupid remarks about Mike my fiance was new to swimming when we first went to the island and although brave and wanted to try a discovery dive. The slightest problem could have put her off diving for life. Mike gained her confidence to enable her to perform mask removal, treading water, bcd removal and all the other tasks she feared. Mike has an award for excellence from PADI which he fully deserves. How many other instructors in the Philippines can say the same thing. And it says something for TSD that mike has stayed there for at least 2 years, probably 4??? Andrea & Trevor run a very good operation with a all the way down the line from instructors to guides to boat boys to office secretary to waitress to barmaid to cleaner and I would recommend them to anyone and would trust my life with them all the time. Regards, Jason
5 Star Rated 5 Star Rated Hi all divers, we can really recommend TSD as a very proff divings center. The person behind the crasy comments need to go and see a doctor for a brain check. We had 2 weeks and the staff was really proff, my wife, 2 kids and mysellf had a wonderful time with TSD and Andrea and Trevor are really competent people. Mike is an unbelievable instructor and got everybody to feel good about diving. Just ask my daughter she will never forget him and ask everyday when we can go back again. I can only give TSD my biggest applaus and recommendation. Go there for great diving and courses. We will for sure be back.
5 Star Rated 5 Star Rated Thank you THRESHER SHARK DIVERS. You're definitely the best out there. Thanks to Andrea and Trevor for funning a tight and first class ship and navigating us through some really successful dives during a time of typhoons! We really got a lot from your professionalism. Heart felt thanks to Mike... You're a superstar instructor and a gentleman. Thanks also to Dino for organising and planning the schedules despite what mother nature was hurling at us! Carla.... Keep up the great work at Oscars, and thank you so much for looking after George when he fell ill. The boat boys, captains and the DM's were absolutely world class.. All in all you're a terrific bunch and none of us can understand any of the negative views about THRESHER SHARK DIVERS, which we can only assume are bogus and posted by some very poor competition. We will be back to Malapascua and it will be you who we dive with. KEEP IT UP! YOU'RE BY FAR THE BEST OUT THERE. If anyone out there reading this is heading to Malapascua, make absolutely certain it is with THRESHER SHARK DIVERS.
5 Star Rated 5 Star Rated I do think TSD is the best dive shops. Service is excellent, all the dives are on time. Instructors are professional. They brief you before every dive. I would definately go back again! I took my baby with me during my dive holiday, and the staff at Oscar's helped us a lot! heating up the food, carrying the buddy up and down stairs for us. they tried their best to help us. and they deserve the best rating! And I don't understand why they got negative comment at all. I never experience what some people 'complaint' about, I wonder if they have any proof at all. Or just some hoax comment. you will be skeptical if someone gave negative comment about TSD BUT tell you to go Exotic Divers instead! It must be something 'dirty' going on as somebody is trying to take down one dive shop and praise the others! i mean get a grip, for whoever left the negative comment!
5 Star Rated 5 Star Rated I don't know who these stupid people are as they have no clue what they are talking about! Thresher Shark Divers behaved extremely responsibly with regards to safety and care to myself, my family and the group I was in. They co - ordinated the whole group (30 of us) extremely well and met all our individual requirements taking into great consideration the safety aspect. They all worked very hard throughout our stay (including the bar staff). This is the second time my husband and I have visited malapascua and TSD, and both times they have treated us very well. As someone new to swimming and extremely nervous Mike opened up a new experience for me with the Discovery dive and at no point did I feel in danger - I have complete confidence in Mike and would certainly recommend him and encourage anyone wishing to dive to go to TSD. They are by far the only Dive Centre worth training with in Malalpascua.
5 Star Rated 3 Star Rated theres always gonna be one that gets it wrong along the way or is impossible to please and I understand this one disgruntled customer repeatedly didn't turn up for dives and was impossible to please: I think we've all known one of them! Don't let this one rogue review put you off this excellent dive shop. I'm a part of the group of 30 plus divers and 10 or so non divers that visited TSD during Sept/October and on this my second trip of the year with this highly competent team enjoyed myself in total confidence that safety and our well being was top priority. I now consider the team at Threshers to be personal friends and look forward to seeing them again in Malapascua. Stuart
4 Star Rated 3 Star Rated I've done 80+ dives with TSD in my 5 trips to Malapascua. As an OWSI, I've got a couple things to mention: - in typically rough waters and the type of boats used in Malapascua, I feel is perfectly advisible to 'push' an inexperienced OW student to make sure he/she clears the boat on the giant stride. That's actually safer than having someone 'half-jump'. - PADI is a reputable institution. Do you really reckon they will hand out PERSONALIZED & INDIVIDUAL certificates of excellence in teaching to just about anyone??? Mike has one and it's proudly exhibited at TSD shop. Enough said about that. - In terms of divemasters, I have nothing but praise for the Filipino crew: Tata, Riza and Bolchoi are excellent underwater guides. They always asign buddies BUT as a certified diver, it's YOUR responsibility to do your buddy check, not the shop or their staff. But this person writes ' they didn't allow us to do buddy checks'. I'm curious, did they tie your hands? Or forbid you from diving if you were seen doing buddy checks? Come on...keep your stupidity to yourself, please! - and about their administrative capabilities, in my long experience with them, everything has always worked without a glitch at the shop. Bookings, schedules, bills, everything! I recently requested help in clarifying some issues with the status of my 9+ certs for teaching. Andrea sorted everything out withing hours. I was pretty impressed and grateful. So, if you wanna experience Malapascua with a safe, competent and fun crew, choose TSD. Fernando

1 Star Rated 1 Star Rated the staff are incompetent, have no clue how to run a dive shop and rip people off. email me and i can tell u a dozen things that went wrong during our week there.

Not Rated Not Rated If they didn't let you do a buddy check did you still get off the boat?
Not Rated Not Rated I would agree with the negative reviews here. I've seen the boat crew physically push open water students off the boats - which no matter if you're qualified or not is inappropriate. I would agree that the dive masters at Thresher Sharks are good people. My group tipped them generously. As were the wait-staff in the restaurant. However, with regards to the Instructors and Management - I seriously question their capabilities. I cannot believe they are rated a 5 star dive centre, and wouldn't be surprised if they had lied about it. Having dived in 15 other countries over 10years, I would certainly say this was the least professionally run operation I've ever seen. Go with Malapascua Exotic Divers. I switched a few days into my trip and was much more impressed with them.
